TRAINING ADVISORY COUNCILS

Training Advisory Councils (TAC’s) are not for profit organisations, funded by NT government to provide leadership and advice to industry, government and the community, on the vocational education and training needs of the industries they work with.

They also play an important role in promoting careers, and assisting industry to devise and implement strategies to overcome skills shortages.

There are six TACs operating in the Northern Territory.

MITAC’s ROLE

• Assist enterprises in each industry sector to gain nationally recognised skills for their employees
  

• Assist the NT Government to target its training dollars for best effect on the economic development of the Northern Territory

• Assist Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) to provide quality training and assessment services to their clients

• Assist persons to access learning opportunities that lead to desired employment outcomes

• Provide information / advice about vocational education and training

• Contribute to the development and review of National Training Packages

• Assist schools to implement and maintain VET in Schools programs and Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASBA)

INDUSTRY SKILLS

MITAC maintains close links with its various industry sectors to:

• Keep updated on skills needs

• Be alert to issues and problems

• Keep industry informed

Industry is encouraged to have an input into any aspect of the NT training system, for example:

• What training is needed

• How, when and where the training should be delivered

• Quality and cost of the training

MITAC’s PHILOSOPHY

• Competent employees are essential to safe and profitable business

• Quality vocational education and training is the means of developing competent employees

• Industry and government have joint responsibility for meeting current and future skills needs
